Photoelectric sensors include a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter sends light to the target area and the receiver uses either the presence of light (light on) or the absence of light (dark-on) to determine that a target is present. The basic types of photoelectric sensors are thru-beam, polarized retro reflective, diffuse, and diffuse with background suppression.
Thru-Beam Sensing
The transmitter and receiver are installed in separate housings that are mounted opposite to each other. Each time an object interrupts the effective beam, the output of the receiver changes states. Thru-beam pairs are typically used when long sensing ranges or high excess gain is required.
Polarized Retro-reflective Sensing Using a Reflector
The transmitter and receiver are housed in a single unit. A reflector is mounted opposite to the sensor and will return transmitted light back to the receiver. Polarized retro reflective sensors provide medium distance sensing range.
Diffuse Sensing Using a Target
With diffuse sensors, the transmitter and receiver are housed in a single unit and the unit evaluates reflected light. Diffuse sensors use the transmitted light that is reflected by the target to determine the status of the output. Diffuse sensors provide short sensing ranges.
Diffuse Sensors with Background Suppression
Diffuse sensors with background suppression are ideal in applications with highly reflective backgrounds that are located behind a less reflective target. The sensor can detect the object and ignore the reflective background.
A Variety of Sensor Solutions
OG series plastic, compact AC and DC 18 mm tubular housing
OG sensors are packaged in an industry-standard 18 mm diameter tubular housing. Using pushbutton set up, the OG’s microprocessor-based technology allows the sensor to learn the characteristics of both the target and the background.
OG series stainless steel, compact DC 18 mm tubular housing OG sensors feature microprocessor-based automatic set up in a durable 316 stainless steel housing. The housing, LED and pushbutton window are moulded as a single unit which allows the sensor to operate reliably in wet environments found in pressure cleaning and washdown environments.
OJ series, front sensing miniature sensor
The miniature OJ sensor features automatic set up with a pushbutton calibration that allows the OJ to learn the signal characteristics of both the target and the background. The sensor is ideal for high-speed applications and for sensing small components on conveyors.
OJ series, side sensing miniature sensor
The miniature OJ sensor features automatic set up with a pushbutton calibration that allows the OJ to learn the signal characteristics of both the target and the background. The sensor is ideal for high-speed applications and for sensing small components on conveyors.
OL series rectangular AC and DC models
The OL sensor features automatic set up using pushbutton adjustment. The sensor features an additional output LED for easy alignment and mounting on wide conveyor sections. A variety of stainless steel mounting brackets protects the sensor from potential damage on conveyors and provides quick and easy set up.
O5 series
A photocell that can be used for most applications and features such as high switching frequencies for fast processes, high IP 67 protection rating, detection distance of up to 20 m (through-beam models), precise background suppression (diffuse reflection models), sophisticated mounting concept.
